Important Deadlines for Taxpayers in 2020

Calendaring important IRS and tax authority deadlines can save you a lot of headaches at tax time.  To avoid paying penalties and other tax consequences, keep a calendar and plan for tax deadlines with your accountant, attorney, and other members of your professional team.  The below items are a few examples of important tax deadlines:

January 31, 2020 – employers distribute Form W-2 Earnings Statements to employees and businesses to issue Form 1099 Statements

January 31, 2020 – Employers file your Form 940

February 28, 2020 – businesses to mail in Forms 1099 and 1096 (March 31, 2020 if filing electronically)

March 16, 2020 – partnerships & S corporation tax returns

April 1, 2020 – tangible personal property tax returns on Form DR-405 – per St. Johns County website, check for possible updates here.  (Other counties will also need to check for updates)   

April 15, 2020 – *July 15, 2020 – individual Form 1040, C corporation Form 1120, and trust/estate tax returns Form 1041

April 15, 2020 – *July 15, 2020 – 1st quarter estimated tax payment for the tax year 2020

May 15, 2020 – non-profit organization tax returns with ending date of tax year of December 31

June 15, 2020 – 2nd quarter estimated tax payment

September 15, 2020 – S corporation and partnership tax returns if an extension was requested

September 15, 2020 – 3rd quarter estimated tax payment

January 15, 2021 – 4th quarter estimated tax payment
