Important Deadlines for Taxpayers in 2018

Calendaring important IRS and tax authority deadlines can save you a lot of headaches at tax time.  To avoid paying penalties and other tax consequences, keep a calendar and plan for tax deadlines with your accountant, attorney, and other members of your professional team.  The below items are a few examples of important tax deadlines:

  • January 17, 2018 – 2017 4th quarter estimated tax payments.
  • January 31, 2018 – employers distribute Form W-2 Earnings Statements to employees, businesses to issue Form 1099 Statements, and self-employed individuals to file and pay taxes.
  • February 28, 2018 – businesses to mail in Forms 1099 and 1096 (March 31, 2018 if filing electronically).
  • March 15, 2018 – partnerships & S corporation tax returns.
  • April 1, 2018 – tangible personal property tax returns on Form DR-405.
  • April 2, 2018 – employers file Form W-2.
  • April 17, 2018 – individual, C corporation, and trust/estate tax returns and make tax payments.
  • May 15, 2018 – non-profit organization tax returns.
  • June 15, 2018 – 2018 2nd quarter estimated tax payments.
  • September 17, 2018 – S corporation and partnership tax returns if an extension was requested and the 2018 3rd quarter estimated tax payments.
  • October 15, 2018 – individual, C corporation, and trust/estate tax returns if an extension was requested.
  • January 17, 2019 – 2018 4th quarter estimated tax payments.
